The Honeysuckle Mile

I love this time of year. The smell of freshly cut grass, fragrant peonies and especially the smell of honeysuckle! It's one of my favorites.

The driveway to the Little House is about a mile long and all along the way honeysuckle is everywhere.

I love to roll the windows of the car down and just breathe in that sweet smell.

It's a seasonal thing so I enjoy it as long as I can.

And then it's over. But there's always next year.

Hmmmm. Honeysuckle! I just love where I live!

I visited the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts with my friend Debbie on Sunday. The Picasso Exhibit is here in Richmond until May 15th. Second of only three stops in the United States which included paintings, drawing, sculptures and etches by the artist.

The Promise.

This week is spring break at the little house.
Little T is getting over a stomach bug but is really excited to be out of school for a week. So beginning tomorrow I will be on spring break with him. And I am looking forward to some quality time with him and Cdub. I promise to enjoy every minute of it. I promise to laugh and smile...a lot! I promise to do some yard work and take Little T shopping. I promise to give out extra hugs and kisses this week. I promise to take lots of pictures and get plenty of rest. I promise to help someone in need. I promise to cherish this holy week. I promise to thank God for all the blessings He has given me. Now I will leave you with this promise I saw at the end of my driveway last week. Enjoy and have a wonderful Easter!

It is Monday~right?

TGIF!!

It's been a crazy week for me. Getting over a cold, three hundred and forty nine things to do and only got seven of them done! Class, church and a sick young en. I did squeeze a few hours in on my job after having my yearly smashogram and checkup today! It's about quitting time and I believe a bottle glass of wine or two is in order! And maybe take out for dinner. Tomorrow promises a hundred few loads of laundry, some light housework and a day in the kitchen cooking! Then downloading some photos and maybe a movie. Just because it'll be raining. Whatcha gonna be doing? Whatever it is......

It's a Cats Life

This is Cookie.

Some of you may know what a

spoiled rotten feline she is.

She shares a queen sized bed with Little T.

She has never missed a meal.

Nor a chance to wake me at wee hours of the morning!

And like me she has gained a few pounds.

At an employee care fair last week they had some folks from the SPCA (The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). They were making sure you had information on having your pet neutered or spayed. Also there were peeps from an obedience school for your pets. Hmmmmm?

Spayed~check! Obedience school? I wonder if they can teach her how to tell time!

You Gotta Meet Molly.

I received this story in an email this morning.
You may have read it before as have I,
but I think it bears repeating and sharing.

Sometimes hope is all we have.

Meet Molly. She's a grey speckled pony who
was abandoned by her owners when Hurricane
Katrina hit southern Louisiana . She spent weeks
on her own before finally being rescued and taken
to a farm where abandoned animals were stockpiled.
While there, she was attacked by a pit bull terrier
and almost died. Her gnawed right front leg became
infected, and her vet went to LSU for help, but
LSU was overwhelmed, and this pony was a welfare
case. You know how that goes.

But after surgeon Rustin Moore met Molly,
He changed his mind. He saw how the pony was careful to lie down on different
sides so she didn't seem to get sores,
and how she allowed people to handle her.
She protected her injured leg.
She constantly shifted her weight
and didn't overload her good leg.
She was a smart pony with a serious survival ethic.

Moore agreed to remove her leg below the knee,
and a temporary artificial limb was built. Molly
walked out of the clinic and her story really
begins there.

'This was the right horse and the right owner,'
Moore insists. Molly happened to be a
one-in-a-million patient.
She's tough as nails, but sweet, and she was willing to cope with pain.
She made it obvious she understood that she was
in trouble. The other important factor, according
to Moore , is having a truly committed and compliant
owner who is dedicated to providing the daily care
required over the lifetime of the horse.

Molly's story turns into a parable for life in Post-Katrina Louisiana ..
The little pony gained weight, and her mane finally felt a comb.
A human prosthesis designer built her a leg.
The prosthetic has given Molly a whole new life,
Allison Barca DVM, Molly's regular vet, reports.
And she asks for it. She will put her little limb out,
and come to you and let you know that she wants
you to put it on. Sometimes she wants you to take
it off too. And sometimes, Molly gets away from
Barca. 'It can be pretty bad when you can't catch
a three-legged horse,' she laughs.

Most important of all, Molly has a job now. Kay,
the rescue farm owner, started taking Molly to
shelters, hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation
centers. Anywhere she thought that people needed
hope. Wherever Molly went, she showed people
her pluck. She inspired people, and she had a
good time doing it.

'It's obvious to me that Molly had a bigger role to
play in life, Moore said. She survived the hurricane,
she survived a horrible injury,
and now she is giving hope to others.'
Barca concluded, 'She's not back to normal,
But she's going to be better. To me, she could be a
symbol for New Orleans itself.'

This is Molly's most recent prosthesis. The bottom
photo shows the ground surface that she stands on,
which has a smiley face embossed in it. Wherever
Molly goes, she leaves a smiley hoof print behind.

God's creatures often reflect
the character we aspire to.

The Bald Spot

The not so Little T (yep he is so proud to be taller than his mama now) was sitting next to me in church this past Sunday. This is rare as I normally sit with the choir (but that's for another post) and he always sits with his dad. At the end of the service he towers over to me and quietly says, "Mama did you know that you have a bald spot on the top of your head?" Me totally shocked says, " Well no I didn't!", and my hand went flying to the back of my head and my mind was wondering why no one had bothered to mention this to me. Needless to say I went home to check it for myself. I just took this picture of the back of my head a few moments ago, (of course I was on break.) A bald spot????? Really!Don't you just hate it when your kids get taller than you??

The Bee and 1-11-11

Well Little T has done it again!

This is his 4Th year winning the Spelling Bee for his class.
He placed second in our county Spelling Bee!

The killer word was...kerchief.

Seriously? Do they even make those things anymore?

But it's OK. He continues to make me proud.

On another note.

January 11, 2011 was a very special day for me. I became retirement eligible! Never thought I would be so excited about being able to retire. I've been here at the phone factory now for over 25 years. I am not sure when I will retire but it sure is a good feeling to know I can go when and iffen I want to!

(iffen is so a word!)
