The House that Little T and I Built

Ever since I was a little girl, I always dreamed of having my very own dollhouse. I would see pictures of them in magazines and catalogs and I'd stare and dream for hours just to have one of my very own.

I was mesmerized by the sight of them if I saw one in a store window. But in a house with 8 kids, dollhouses were not at the top of the list, not even for sharing.

So sometime in the eighties, I had this bright idea that I would one day have a doll house of my own. Thus my miniature collection began. I bought this and hunted for that, just like a young bride to be collecting stuff for a hope chest. I had all these furnishings for a miniature house.....but no house. One thing lead to another and the years passed. The little collection grew. I hauled that box of miniatures around for years. I finally stopped collecting, figuring this would be something I would eventually get to...like maybe in my retirement years. The box of miniatures continued to collect dust and cobwebs and occasionally I would even dust it off. It was just there...but I would not part with them. Because you just never know.

Well, while at my neighbor's house across the road one day last year, he asked me if I wanted this beat up, falling apart miniature house. (He was in the process of moving to another city.) The windows were missing and broken, the shutters were gone, the shingles were peeling and it was in desperate need of paint. Little T was with me, so I asked him if he thought we could fix up this little house. It would be like renovating an old house. He said he thought it would be fun so we set about scrubbing and cleaning, painting and gluing! "Oh yeah Mama! This will be so cool when we are done!" Now we are by no means thevinylvillage but we did give it a good shot and soon it begin to take shape and even look livable. Finally it was time to move in!

Little T had no idea of the collection of miniatures I had stashed away! That was the surprise! For him and me! It was so much fun pulling out all those tiny treasures and giving them a home for the very first time!

We have spent hours putting this here and that there.
I have made some rugs and hung a few pictures.

Little T has a spot for the animals and is in charge of where the people sit!

We are always talking about what needs to be done next.

Home Sweet Home!

Now we still have work to do and furnishings to buy. We found a super miniature shop about 30 miles away from where we live. We'll go there every so often to see what we can find on sale!

This whole project has been good for both of us. The time we spend together is priceless!

So if you are ever in the hood, stop on in and see the house that Little T and I built. It's a place where memories are made and dreams really do come true!

OMGosh...that looks exactly like the one PP has! Her dad and I built it for her for Xmas one year. We did it all on a card table in our bedroom and covered it during the day so she could not see it...It's in pretty bad shape now...in her garage! But it was alot of fun building and decorating!

I LOVE miniatures. LOVE them. A few years ago my mom bought a doll house and I couldn't wait to see it (thinking all the time that I would take it from her...really!) When I saw it, it was enormous and UGLY. I was heart-broken :) It's still my dream, though, to collect miniatures. You know what? I've never told that before to anyone.

My grandmother used to have one of these. It was yellow and looked like a victorian home. Then my aunt bought a house that looked just like it! My mom used to needlepoint little rugs and stuff for it. My aunt got it after my grandmother passed, but it is still something we all remember about her :)

Kudos to Little T. That's really cool!

That's really cool. I remember watching some guy build one on tv when I was a kid. He would do different things each week on the construction. It was awesome too.
