Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras is French for "Fat Tuesday") or Shrove Tuesday, is the last day of feasting before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday.
The Costumes and Masks!
The Floats!
The Crowds on Bourbon Street!
The Beads and Dubloons!
The Treasures and Memories!
If you ever been there and done that you know how fun it is! If you haven't..you should... at least once in your lifetime.
Are you giving up anything for Lent this year?

Nearly every year I have Mardi Gras marked on my calendar, and try to do a fun meal (I'm a huge Emeril fan) but didn't know it was today until this morning! Oops. Maybe later this week we can have a small celebration.
Around Detroit, Fat Tuesday is Paczki Day. People line up for hours to buy these Polish, fruit-filled donuts. I've tried them before and thought they were good, but get up at 3 AM for them? Not.
I don't give up anything for lent anymore...it doesn't work for me. I actually add devotions to my morning and nightime prayers. It's a Catholic thing...involving knees and sobbing...no, no, no sobbing. I made that part up.
Q-94 had posted a Mardi-Gras Cam on their website this morning. Here it was, 7 a.m., and the streets (bars) were full of people. One guy evidently had not been to bed, and he fell down right in the middle of Bourbon Street....sadly enough, he wasted a full Hurricane. Tsk. Tsk.
Voici à de bonnes femmes -
pouvons nous les savoir.
pouvons nous être eux.
pouvons nous les lever.
(I hope I said what I think I said!)
Translation:
Here's to good women -
may we know them,
may we be them,
may we raise them.
Amen to that sista!
I went to Mardi Gras on year...I remember going to Bourbon Street but I don not remember leaving Bourbon Street and I woke up with the worst bruises ever.
I am giving up....nope, can't do that one...nope, already done that one....coffee, nope, fabric, NOOOOOO, men? Maybe? I know, I will give up blogging....okay...I will have to think about this one.
What if I give something to Lent, like a donation everyday of Lent...Do you think God would allow it?
I have ALWAYS wanted to go.......
Looks soo fun!!!!!
Lent is better served by giving rather than giving something up.
Give time every week to a food kitchen.
Give food every week to a food pantry.
Give time visiting a nursing home.
Give something that will make life a little better for somebody.
Take up a symbolic cross and walk with Jesus to Easter.
My brother-in-law was on one of those floats! I'll ask which.
This was our first year but you know that because you read the post :) It was fun and my kids had a ball catching beads!
