He's Not a Baby Anymore

Last week Little T has his regular six month dental check up. He had one "baby" tooth left and has been trying to "wiggle" it out for a year now without any luck. On this visit the dentist decided to help him out. The last "baby" tooth was pulled. Little T did very well. No tears and no terror. Only demands from the "Tooth Fairy" that I owed him a dollar! No problem. He gave me the tooth, I gave him a dollar. When I got home, I gently placed the last of the "baby" teeth in the small Noah's Art box that has safely held all those "baby" teeth for years. SIGH. Yes, I have them all, except for the one he lost. For that one he wrote to the "Tooth Fairy" telling her what happened. And I still have the note. I know it is silly and ridiculous. Just some of my memories of motherhood, when my Little T was a baby. SIGH. Damn they grow up fast. So next week we are off to the orthodontist and it's gonna cost me more than a dollar. What is some silly or ridiculous thing you have saved?

We are in the same boat. Diva Daughter has an appointment to get her braces in two weeks. The cost is... just wow. SO much money.

Love the little box and I love the note. They do grow up way too fast.

I don't think it's silly to save those teeth, or that note. My mom saved our teeth too. For all I know, she still has them somewhere.

I've got all my report cards from my school years.

Oh, I have two tiny wooden hinged boxes with each girls teeth in it, looks pretty much just like that.
Of course there's the hair from the first haircuts, notes I sent with them when they went to their Nana's to visit. I'm not sure, but there may even be an umbilical cord that got put away when it fell off the o'le belly button. Now, THAT? is weird.

Same here...two silver boxes in the curio cabinet with all the baby teeth. One year I overslept and forgot to go in to give the Tooth Fairy $. Mackenzie woke up and the tooth was still there. CRUSHED. So I tried to tell her it was a fluke. I madly typed out a note from the Tooth Fairy, saying she was a new one, on a new flight pattern...and arrived too late. Snuck it in there an hour later while Kenzie ate. She went in, found the note, and stayed excited for a week that the fairy had come in while she was AWAKE and slipped it in! Big save.

My babies are 34 and 31 and I still have the teeth and the notes to the tooth fairy, I don't see anything wrong with that!

Baby teeth, first curl, letters to Santa, apology notes, report cards.....they're all being safely kept around the house. They are priceless.

Can't believe how grown up Little T is now:(

My "baby" knocked them dead in NYC today....hope they knew it!!!

That ark, those teeth and that note may be the most precious thing I've seen.

Every single thing I save is silly, up to and including my Budweiser Chuck Taylor high tops.

Ok, I'm sorry, but no matter how silly they are, those will not be thrown away.

I have three children and I saved all their teeth!

How wonderful of you...I wish I had saved all four of my kids teeth. I'd have enough to make a nice puka shell look alike necklace.

I do have all their Christmas ornaments.

They do grow up so fast. I have a clay pot that is on my desk. It is horribly ugly but still beautiful.

I don't have anything... this may be from moving, and then moving and then moving again .. oh and then moving again.

I actually have the first tooth that Cndtrtle lost and Baby Waterboys hair when we finally cut it at 4 and Watergirl I am sure I have something, I think I have her two front teeth that Cndtrtle kicked out at the age of 4. Oh wait I knew I had something. I have her itty bitty teeny tiny cast from when she broke her leg at age 2 when Cndtrtle shoved her off the top bunk... you can tell that he loved his sister can't you.

I am crying now.
I can't take this growing up thing.
I saved some of his baby clothes for my next baby. Hopefully Gary will let me produce that before all the clothes are ridiculously out of date... oh wait, it has been 10 years. They are already ridiculously out of date... man!

Saving the past is a mom's job .. when we emptied the Florida condo we spent a lot of time looking through the things mom saved ...

I have my daughter's braided pigtails. The beautician tried to talk her out of cuttin' her hair in the second grade! I kept the braids!

God bless and have a glorious day!!!

Glad for Little T that he lost the last tooth, but not glad for your purse that he had to go to the ortho. I know how that goes. I still have 2 more that I think will need braces and 3 that already had them. Thank God for payment plans.

So sweet you saved that note! I can't imagine not having a little treasure box of stuff like that. Doesn't everyone?

Noe..you are not silly to keep notes and teeth. I still have TPSkipper's and TPMidge's and they are both married now.
You got off easy with a buck! My little grand-daughter thinks the tooth fairy has shorted her if she gets less than a fiver under her pillow. In reality, I'm pretty sure that she knows now that there is no TF but she's smart enough to play her parents.
Keep up the great writing. You are really good at it!

My mom kept all our baby teeth. I kept my kids', till one day it just grossed me out and I tossed them. I love the note. :)

I have all my kids' teeth... but frankly, I'm not sure why I'm saving them. It only occurred to me to question this when my husband's mother brought one of HIS baby teeth to show us. Really? She kept it for 44 years? What was she planning on doing with it? Making earrings, perhaps?

*scratches head*

But I'm with ya, there's something about the teeth. And I still have all of 'em.

I also have my wedding dress, which is absurd considering I have three boys who will never want it. Maybe I'll have a granddaughter one day.

This is so gross, but I still have my daughter's umbilical cord stump. I just can't throw it out.

Not silly at all!

When I was really little, I became really sick. My Grandma made me a quilt to keep me warm. A real quilt, hand sewn from scraps of other items (we did not have a lot of money). She used everything she could find that was Mickey Mouse, and put together a patchwork quilt that was just my size, and totally kept me warm.

I love her for many, many things, and now that she is gone I still have that patch work quilt to remember her for.

God bless you for your precious little one, and yes, they do grow up fast!!!

Oh, that is so sweet. I don't think it's silly at all. I love the little note he wrote. how cute.

Before I was married, there was a little boy who lived in the house behind me and he and other kids used to like to come and visit me. He had a huge crush on me and wrote me a note and I still have it. I think he must have been about seven years old.

I don't know why I'm saving my kids teeth but I am. I also have some hair from their first haircuts. And some sweaters they wore when they were toddlers. I plan on giving the sweaters to them for their children but it doesn't look like the sound of the pitter patter of little feet will be happening very soon!

Kaia is losing her first baby teeth right now. She was bursting at the seems to tell me they were loose last night. Soon she'll be down to her last... It all happens so fast.
