The Honeysuckle Mile

I love this time of year. The smell of freshly cut grass, fragrant peonies and especially the smell of honeysuckle! It's one of my favorites.

The driveway to the Little House is about a mile long and all along the way honeysuckle is everywhere.

I love to roll the windows of the car down and just breathe in that sweet smell.

It's a seasonal thing so I enjoy it as long as I can.

And then it's over. But there's always next year.

Hmmmm. Honeysuckle! I just love where I live!

This week is spring break at the little house.
Little T is getting over a stomach bug but is really excited to be out of school for a week. So beginning tomorrow I will be on spring break with him. And I am looking forward to some quality time with him and Cdub. I promise to enjoy every minute of it. I promise to laugh and smile...a lot! I promise to do some yard work and take Little T shopping. I promise to give out extra hugs and kisses this week. I promise to take lots of pictures and get plenty of rest. I promise to help someone in need. I promise to cherish this holy week. I promise to thank God for all the blessings He has given me. Now I will leave you with this promise I saw at the end of my driveway last week. Enjoy and have a wonderful Easter!

It's been a crazy week for me. Getting over a cold, three hundred and forty nine things to do and only got seven of them done! Class, church and a sick young en. I did squeeze a few hours in on my job after having my yearly smashogram and checkup today! It's about quitting time and I believe a ~~bottle~~ glass of wine or two is in order! And maybe take out for dinner. Tomorrow promises a ~~hundred~~ few loads of laundry, some ~~light~~ housework and a day in the kitchen cooking! Then downloading some photos and maybe a movie. Just because it'll be raining. Whatcha gonna be doing? Whatever it is......

This is Cookie.

Some of you may know what a

spoiled rotten feline she is.

She shares a queen sized bed with Little T.

She has never missed a meal.

Nor a chance to wake me at wee hours of the morning!

And like me she has gained a few pounds.

At an employee care fair last week they had some folks from the SPCA (The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). They were making sure you had information on having your pet neutered or spayed. Also there were peeps from an obedience school for your pets. Hmmmmm?

Spayed~check! Obedience school? I wonder if they can teach her how to tell time!

I received this story in an email this morning.
You may have read it before as have I,
but I think it bears repeating and sharing.

Sometimes hope is all we have.

Meet Molly. She's a grey speckled pony who
was abandoned by her owners when Hurricane
Katrina hit southern Louisiana . She spent weeks
on her own before finally being rescued and taken
to a farm where abandoned animals were stockpiled.
While there, she was attacked by a pit bull terrier
and almost died. Her gnawed right front leg became
infected, and her vet went to LSU for help, but
LSU was overwhelmed, and this pony was a welfare
case. You know how that goes.

But after surgeon Rustin Moore met Molly,
He changed his mind. He saw how the pony was careful to lie down on different
sides so she didn't seem to get sores,
and how she allowed people to handle her.
She protected her injured leg.
She constantly shifted her weight
and didn't overload her good leg.
She was a smart pony with a serious survival ethic.

Moore agreed to remove her leg below the knee,
and a temporary artificial limb was built. Molly
walked out of the clinic and her story really
begins there.

'This was the right horse and the right owner,'
Moore insists. Molly happened to be a
one-in-a-million patient.
She's tough as nails, but sweet, and she was willing to cope with pain.
She made it obvious she understood that she was
in trouble. The other important factor, according
to Moore , is having a truly committed and compliant
owner who is dedicated to providing the daily care
required over the lifetime of the horse.

Molly's story turns into a parable for life in Post-Katrina Louisiana ..
The little pony gained weight, and her mane finally felt a comb.
A human prosthesis designer built her a leg.
The prosthetic has given Molly a whole new life,
Allison Barca DVM, Molly's regular vet, reports.
And she asks for it. She will put her little limb out,
and come to you and let you know that she wants
you to put it on. Sometimes she wants you to take
it off too. And sometimes, Molly gets away from
Barca. 'It can be pretty bad when you can't catch
a three-legged horse,' she laughs.

Most important of all, Molly has a job now. Kay,
the rescue farm owner, started taking Molly to
shelters, hospitals, nursing homes, and rehabilitation
centers. Anywhere she thought that people needed
hope. Wherever Molly went, she showed people
her pluck. She inspired people, and she had a
good time doing it.

'It's obvious to me that Molly had a bigger role to
play in life, Moore said. She survived the hurricane,
she survived a horrible injury,
and now she is giving hope to others.'
Barca concluded, 'She's not back to normal,
But she's going to be better. To me, she could be a
symbol for New Orleans itself.'

This is Molly's most recent prosthesis. The bottom
photo shows the ground surface that she stands on,
which has a smiley face embossed in it. Wherever
Molly goes, she leaves a smiley hoof print behind.

The Bald Spot

The not so Little T (yep he is so proud to be taller than his mama now) was sitting next to me in church this past Sunday. This is rare as I normally sit with the choir (but that's for another post) and he always sits with his dad. At the end of the service he towers over to me and quietly says, "Mama did you know that you have a bald spot on the top of your head?" Me totally shocked says, " Well no I didn't!", and my hand went flying to the back of my head and my mind was wondering why no one had bothered to mention this to me. Needless to say I went home to check it for myself. I just took this picture of the back of my head a few moments ago, (of course I was on break.) A bald spot????? Really!Don't you just hate it when your kids get taller than you??

Well Little T has done it again!

This is his 4Th year winning the Spelling Bee for his class.
He placed second in our county Spelling Bee!

The killer word was...kerchief.

Seriously? Do they even make those things anymore?

But it's OK. He continues to make me proud.

On another note.

January 11, 2011 was a very special day for me. I became retirement eligible! Never thought I would be so excited about being able to retire. I've been here at the phone factory now for over 25 years. I am not sure when I will retire but it sure is a good feeling to know I can go when and iffen I want to!

(iffen is so a word!)

The State Fair

The Virginia State Fair was in town a few weeks ago.
We made a family day of it. Lots of sights to see, some old
and some new. Lots of walking, rides, food, smells and
just plain ole fun! I did take my camera but was really
slack in the picture taking department.

Well, my thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. I went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs. It was just that quick. The replacements had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Whose thighs are these and what happened to mine? I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans.
And then the thieves struck again.
My butt was next. I knew it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear-end to the thighs they had stuck me with earlier. But my new butt was attached at least three inches lower than my original! I realized I'd have to give up my jeans in favor of long skirts.
Two years ago I realized my arms had been switched.
One morning I was fixing my hair and was horrified to see the flesh of my upper arm swing to and fro with the motion of the hairbrush. This was really getting scary. My body was being replaced one section at a time. What could they do to me next?
When my poor neck suddenly disappeared and was replaced with a turkey neck, I decided to tell my story.
Women of the world wake up and smell the coffee!
Those "plastic" surgeons are using REAL replacement body parts - stolen from you and me! The next time someone you know has something "lifted", look again - was it lifted from you?

Tools for School

The annual Verizon Foundation Tools for School campaign is vital to decreasing financial burden on families and schools, providing K-12 students with basic supplies for learning, and enabling many school projects across the country to be completed. The campaign ran from July 19 to August 13 and I was proud to coordinate this project for my work location. I worked with a great and awesome team. They make me proud to be a part of this worthy cause. Together we were able to raise almost $1,600.00 worth of school supplies that will benefit about 200 children in the rural area where I live. New supplies helps to make the start of school so much nicer for every child in need. And the children is what it's all about!

Our tomatoes are doing quiet well this year.

We are in a dry spell and have had to do some watering.
But it is so worth it. Our tomatoes are beginning to ripen
and it will soon be 'mater sandwich time!
Nothing says summertime like a good tomato sandwich!

I like mine with mayo, cheese and a little
salt on white bread.

1. We don't know how much oil has escaped into the Gulf of Mexico.

2. We don't know how long the oil will keep coming.

3. We don't know where the oil is really going.

4. We don't know who's really in charge.

5. We don't know what the 2,600 vessels involved in the response effort are doing.

6. We don't know the long-term consequences of the dispersant chemicals used to break up oil.

7. We don't know what shorelines may be affected.

.......damn shingles! Itch, scratch, scratch, itch, pain, more pain, no sleep! Clothes don't even touch me! This past week totally sucked! I would rather give birth again! To triplets! Girls Just Wanna Have Fun!

Saturday afternoon, Little T and I headed to Mathews to support Relay for Life/American Cancer Society, a cause that we are passion about. Our family has survivors of this dreadful disease but sadly we have lost some. A Womanless Beauty Pageant fundraiser was being held at Mathews High School and we were not going to miss this opportunity ~~to laugh our tails off~~ to show our support.
So we invade Chesapeake Bay Woman's house, I take over the fridge and begin ~~pouring and guzzling~~ sipping wine and ~~pigging out on~~ nibbling cheese.
Ann Marie decorated everyone their own personal wine glass. That girl has soooo much talent!
Big Hair Envy arrives waiving signs of encouragement and Meg from Soup is not a Finger Food shows up with chips and Chevy's salsa ~to die for! And of course the star of the evening...Bayman!

Then the fun begins!

And a transformation takes place.

A few ~~hundred~~ special added touches.

And then....WALLAH!
Careful what you ask for,
because in Mathews County,
you are just liable to get it!

Awesome Marines

While on Spring break, The Marine ~~hauled~~ took Cdub and Little T to The Marine Corps Heritage Center, which is dedicated to the proud service of Marines, and includes the National Museum of the Marine Corps and Semper Fidelis Memorial Park. They spent the day ~~gawking~~ enjoying the museum's history, having lunch and of course ~~spending their last dime in~~ the gift shop. A real fun for men only day! Little T has not stopped talking about it. The dog tags he bought have become one of his most prized possessions.
Well about a week ago Cdub and Little T go over to see The Marine. I was wondering what was taking them so long to get home. Looks like Little T was in basic training. He's learning from a master! They just don't get any better than The Marine! Have I mentioned we have the best neighbors EVAH!

The Flybaby Returns

The Flybaby was in town again a few weeks ago.
I always love it when we can hang out together
which is not nearly as often as I would like.
I have the best little sister in the world!
We had lunch and went to Starbucks.
Then she was off again!

See this bracelet she gave me? The medallion
is the same as the necklace she wears around
her neck.

Spring is here.
Time for all things new and sprucing up.
We stayed home this spring due to all
the destruction going on here.

There were haircuts to be had.

Braces to be installed and
new smiles to show off.

There was new ground plowed for the
new garden that will be planted soon.

One new ceiling fan that went up..
and one more to go.

New hostas popping out of the ground
that need thinning out.

Fresh brown eggs galore!

My weapon to fight off the new pounds
of pollen that is invading my front porch!

He decided on pizza and video games.

Destruction Happens

As some of you know, Cdub and I started a
destruction project ~~a hundred years ago~~ awhile back.
Things have moving been slow but were moving along.
Until last Tuesday.
Things came to a screeching grinding halt!

That large black object aka a gun safe
on the left in the photo below fell on
Cdub's right foot. All six hundred pounds of it!

!!!!WARNING!!!! The following pictures are
not for small children, weak stomachs,
those who cringe or easily puke.

Poor Cdub! OUCH does not EVEN come close!

I am just so thankful it was not any worse.

But after a nice joy ride in the ambulance to the hospital and tons of x-rays, Cdub came home with only all his toes broken (some of them multiple).The patient is resting and healing nicely. Complete recovery time is about six months.

And that big black object has found it's home
and will not be falling on any more toes.

Blog Fest Planning

Last Sunday afternoon Big Hair Envy and I
headed towards Mathews to meet up with
Chesapeake Bay Woman to do some more
Blog Fest 2010 planning. These meetings
just keep getting better and better.

We ended up at this wonderful place where
the food and wine were simply divine!

A lot of thought has gone into the planning
of this year's events. After plenty of laughter,
jokes, more laughter, and a little more wine,
we finally put our heads together.

Everything is coming together nicely.
This years Blog Fest promises to be as much
fun as last years...if that is even possible!

And if you have not signed up for this

It will make her very happy!

Way back when, Grandma J was offering these Abba-Zaba's to ~~everyone in the world~~ her loyal followers. The taffy lover in me jumped right on it! I am always game for trying something new. I waited and waited and patiently waited. Who knew that the state of Texas would have a blizzard making it difficult for Grandma J to get to the post office and causing me to get a rash waiting for my taffy? At long last the Abba-Zaba's finally arrived.

Maggie

This past Saturday (February 27th) I did something I had to do but dreaded it at the same time. I attended the funeral of my dear friend Maggie. It's one of those things that we all know will eventually happen. I was just so not ready for this. And this was not supposed to happen. Not now. And not to me. Children are not supposed to die before their parents. I just talked to Maggie a few weeks ago. We joked over the phone. She was fine, so she said. We had plans for a get together. It was the last time I heard her voice. My heart broke when I got the news of her passing. Maggie and I have been friends for over twenty five years. She was like a sister to me. My family thought a lot of her as well. Maggie was always there for me no matter what. She knew me and despite all my faults she loved me anyway. Where ever she went, Maggie would spread joy, laughter and love. She was always there to lend a helping hand. We were room mates years ago. We shared so much fun, lots of travels, lots of parties and just some real good times. We have laughed and cried together. Many times. Maggie was loved by many. And she will be missed. This was a wake up call for me. Am I really getting older? Because I don't feel old. It makes you think of your own mortality. It makes me sick and it makes me sad and it makes me mad all at the same time. So as a reminder, hold your loved ones near and tell them you love them often. Hug and kiss your children every chance you get. Get right with your higher power. Because we are here but for a fleeting moment. And life is just way too short.I love you Maggie and I miss you. So until I see you again my friend...Rest in Peace.

He's Not a Baby Anymore

Last week Little T has his regular six month dental check up. He had one "baby" tooth left and has been trying to "wiggle" it out for a year now without any luck. On this visit the dentist decided to help him out. The last "baby" tooth was pulled. Little T did very well. No tears and no terror. Only demands from the "Tooth Fairy" that I owed him a dollar! No problem. He gave me the tooth, I gave him a dollar. When I got home, I gently placed the last of the "baby" teeth in the small Noah's Art box that has safely held all those "baby" teeth for years. SIGH. Yes, I have them all, except for the one he lost. For that one he wrote to the "Tooth Fairy" telling her what happened. And I still have the note. I know it is silly and ridiculous. Just some of my memories of motherhood, when my Little T was a baby. SIGH. Damn they grow up fast. So next week we are off to the orthodontist and it's gonna cost me more than a dollar. What is some silly or ridiculous thing you have saved?

I've been blogging for about a year and a half now. One of the places I visited often was Dr. John's Fortress. I have just learned of his passing. Dr. John was a wonderful story teller. His love for the Lord was felt in his kind words and his Sunday sermons quiet often gave me a wake up call. I will truly miss you Dr. John. You have left footprints on my heart. Love and prayers to his wife Betty and their family.

Well done good and faithful servant.

A Visit to Grandma Milby's

After a wonderful time celebrating this past Saturday, BHE graciously took CBW, Ann Marie and me down the road a piece to visit her Grandmother's old home place. CBW and Ann Marie got out their paparazzi cameras and started shooting up the place! I managed to get a few shots with my camera wanna be.

BHE shared many stories of her Grandmother, the house, the barn and her sweet childhood memories at that house. You could feel the love and almost hear the laughter. It was truly the perfect ending to another wonderful day.

The Flybaby aka my little sister was in town right before Christmas. I love my little sister. She means the world to me. She is so much fun, she has a big heart, she is always smiling, she is very adventurous, she is will not take "no" for an answer and she is the best sister in the world.

The Flybaby flies around a lot.

She likes to travel.

She is a hard worker.

She can do just about anything.

The Flybaby has been all over the world.

She even took me to Paris for lunch one day.
